Player of the Month - Past
Hoboken born and raised Bruno Biasacchi ws the Rockets player of the month for June. He was second in scoring with 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points in 9 games for the Rocets level 6 championship team. Bruno also attended and played hockey at Hudson Catholic in Jersey City.
Biasacchi, now 42, has been playing hockey since three years old and is rated one of the best ice hockey players born in Hoboken. His friend and past Rocket, James “Knobbi” Nardello, is number two next to Bruno’s Rockets 4 teammate Ryan Knapp, who is rated one at the moment.
The player of the month is Goalie Joey Kipnis. Joey has a perfect record of 8-0 playing for Muller Insurance in level 8 West. Kipniss is allowing 3 goals a gambe, but has a knack for winning. He won his last 2 games 6-5 and 3-2 by making some unbelievable saves.
Gabe Capozzi earned the player of the month in April 2009 with 8 goals and 10 assists for 18 points. Gabe who had just got back from Canada and playing on the Fort Frances Sabres, ended up the leading league scorer of levels 4 and 6.
Capozzi, 20, of Fairlawn is studying to be an engineer. He loves playing hockey and was reunited on the Rockets 6 with past Slayer Ice Hockey Teams members Zachary Rassam and Rob Ronconglio, who all played on the Rockets 6 team.
Robert Vizard aka Vizzo attended Don Bosco Prep High School and graduated in 2004. Rob recently took over as the Captain of the level 4 Rockets and did a great job drafting all-star players. His winter Rockets Team ended up 10-5-1-0.
Rob had a big season playing defense with 5 goals and 15 assists for 20 points. His big signing of the spring was obtaining Gabe Capozzi of Fairlawn. Presently Rob is a teacher at Bergen Catholic High School.
The player of the month is Marc Shock. He played the winter seasson of 2008-2009 on the Rockets 6, 7, and 8 teams. Shock is a police officer in Secaucus, NJ presently and attended Hudson Catholic High School where he was the captain of the team in 1993. Playing on the Hudson Catholic State Championship team and the Hoboken Rockets together are Marc, Billy Pein, Timmy Calabrese and Saverio Ortizzo.
Marc ended the 2008-2009 season with 10 goals and 8 assists for 18 points for the level 7 team which was ousted from the playoffs in the first round. Marc is an avid Rangers fan.
Rockets level 7 Freddie Clark of Brick Township was an all-state player for his high school 22 years ago. He has been playing with the Rockets in levels 5 through 7 for five years and lead the Rockets 5 to a championship in 2005 by scoring 40 goals.
This January, Fred lead the team in scoring with 5 goals and 3 assists for 8 points. Besides playing on the Hoboken Rockets, Freddie also is a USA Hockey member and a referee at the Ice House in Hackensack.
Hoboken resident, Kevin Barry, the owner of Barry’s Renovations, always loved the Rangers since he was little and when the GM of the Rockets asked him to play on a lower level team, he jumped at the opportunity. After signing on late with the Rockets 8b team, Kevin ended up scoring two goals and had two assists for four points. Considering Kevin never played hockey before except for some roller hockey, he struggled to learn how to skate and then showed everyone his great wrist shot.
One of Kevin’s goals tied the only game the Rockets 8b won during the winter in overtime. The winning goal was scored by Kevin’s friend and Rockets Captain, Roger Muller from Muller Insurance on the third shot of the shoot out. In the spring of 2009 Mr. Barry is still playing with the Rockets and is working on his hitting and defensive skills. In a quote Kevin said “I love playing with the Hoboken Rockets. The guys are great and the exercise is fantastic. Instead of wishing to be on the ice, I am actually living my dream at age 40.”
Robert Ronconglio of Nutley was the Rockets level 6 co-player of the month for December 2008. Rob had 8 goals and 4 assists for 12 points, helping the Hoboken Rockets to a 5-0 record for the month.
Besides playing on the Rockets, Rob plays in level 7 with the Bombers and is their leading scorer. He also was a member of the Rockets level 6 spring team which won the championship on June 24th, 2009.
Canadian Peter Gordon was the player of the month for November 2008.
He lead the level 7 Rockets to a 4-0-0 start with his great defense which he developed while growing up in Toronto. Besides being a great hockey player, Peter is one of the nicest guys around and is very respected by his teammates and other players.
Peter lives in Woodcliff Lake, N.J. and is married to the lovely Lanie who is a professional trainer. He has a son Zach and daughter Abbey. Mr. Gordon was pursued for three years by GM Roger Muller while he played on the Ice Cats. Peter finally broke down and became a Rocket and has played on Rockets teams from level 5 to level 8 as he got older. He has been with the Rockets since 2006 and this spring is one of the leading defense scorers in 8B with 4 goals and 4 assists.
This month's player of the month is #44 Dr. Michael Kelly. Doc Kelly was drafted by GM Roger Muller in 2002.
In the first month of the season Mike Kelly lead the Rockets 8B team with 5 goals.
He had a hat trick in one game and also sacrificed playing defense in another game where the Rockets won their only game.
The Rockets 8B finished the season with a 1-16-1 record, but Mike Kelly poured his heart out playing in every game.
Playing hockey on a pond in New York State and then jumping into an organized ice hockey league was easy for Dr. Kelly. He is very athletic and is an expert surfer. Dr. Kelly has a Chiropractic business in Hoboken which includes a regular Doctor and a physical therapist. His work number is : 201-533-9200 and he is an expert with hockey injuries. Dr. Kelly lives in Hoboken and is married to Tia Kelly. They have three beautiful triplets who are five.
This month’s players of the month were Anthony Sciarra and Jim Reid of level 8a. Both players helped lead the Rockets to become Champs of the Ice House L8a. Both players lead the team in scoring and points. (Total stats are not available for the summer yet.)
The Rockets won the L8a Championship game on August 28th, 2008 and again both Anthony Sciarra, Assistant Captain of the Rockets, Ex Saint Peter Prep player and Jim Reid, scored important goals. The Rockets ended up with a 10-0-0 record for the summer of 2008!

This month’s player of the month is level 8a goalie Al Restain, who finished the summer season as the number one goalie in the league.
Al was 7-0-0 during the summer and 2-0-0 in the playoffs. He completed the summer 9-0-0 and beat the undefeated Pirates 7-0 in the Championship game. This was the Rockets, who have been playing together since 1991, first ever shut out in a Championship game. Al beat a team whose record was 9-0-0 and was heavily favored.
Unfortunately the Rockets are losing Al to Ramapo College during the Winter season.
This month player of the month was Kyle Langowski who ended the spring season with two big playoff wins and the Ice House Level 6 Championship.
Kyle finished the spring with a 7-2-0 record and allowed only 39 goals in 9 games for a 4.33 goals against average. Considering the high level of play GM, Roger Muller said he was proud of Kyle clutch play. Early in the spring Kyle in a text message promised Muller a Championship in level 6. He made a guarantee after losing the first game of the season to the Yellow Jackets.
Kyle has been playing with the Rockets for the past year and has been the goalie for levels 5 & 6. This summer the Rockets 6 team is 3-1-0 and Kyle is 2-1-0. During the spring he was responsible for one shutout.
One of the best Rocket fans is Kyle’s father, who is pictured with Kyle above. He comes to every game and really supports his son and the Rockets.
This month’s player of the month is Anthony Castagna who plays goalie for the Rockets level 7 winter and spring teams. Anthony was promised the player of the month honors by Captain Roger Muller if he beat the Shooting Stars in a May 2008 spring hockey game. The Rockets had never beat the Stars and Anthony stopped a dynamite line up, winning 15-7.
Anthony is a Hazmat Expert and NYC Fireman. He has been playing with the Rockets on and off since 1997. Anthony had the honor of representing the Rockets team in Toronto, Canada when they played in the HNA Team Championships, as the defending champs. Anthony went 2-1-0, but the Rockets did not advance to the next round.

This month’s player of the month was Saverio Ortizzo who ended the summer season with 4 goals, 5 assists and 9 total points.
Sav finished the summer with the second most points tied with Peter Lamonica and John Leonardi. The leader scorer for the summer was Matt Seckler with 10 goals, 1 assist and 11 points.
Winning face offs was Ortizzo’s specialty and his toughness kept the Rockets in many games against the Orange Lantern, Sabres, and Hazuka Electric who team consisted of most the St. Thomas Aquinas College Team Players.
Sav was quoted after the 2-1 playoff loss to the Sabres as promising a Championship for the Rockets in the winter season. “I will score at least 20 goals during the winter and lead the team to the Championship game for sure.”
